 From the Desk of Chairman,

It gives me immense pleasure to announce the successful establishment of “IIT(BHU)-IRMA Center of Excellence in Refractories” at the Department of Ceramic Engineering, IIT(BHU) in the year of 2018. The center was established under a joint R & D agreement between the Indian Institute of Technology (BHU), Varanasi, and the Indian Refractory Makers Association (IRMA) to fulfill the aim to improve the „academia-industry‟ collaborations. The center's primary goals are to develop state-of-the-art research facilities, create hands-on training programs, and incite the advanced research in ceramics and composites in our institute while facilitating other industries to carry out their research work in the center jointly with IIT(BHU)- Varanasi. The institute has been carrying forward the legacy of the founder of Banaras Hindu University, Mahamana Pandit Mandan Mohan Malviyaji, who has established a center for conducting courses in Glass and Ceramic Technology in the year 1924. For the past 100 years, our institute has been committed to the impactful social advancement by imparting education, skills, and innovations to students/scholars who excelled in their field while further contributing to sustainable society-building.

The „IIT(BHU)-IRMA‟ center is facilitated with several dedicated testing facilities in the field of refractories and other high-temperature ceramics and composites, which primarily follow the national and international testing standards for the evaluation of various properties of ceramic products. To develop a Centre of Excellence, the collaboration between an esteemed educational institute like IIT (BHU), a prestigious society like IRMA, and various reputable ceramic industries should come forward to generate top-of-mind awareness on the ceramics and glasses to multiple segments of our social-communities. In my firm belief, I feel that this center will excel in numerous aspects of implementing contemporary national missions, including Kaushal Bharat Kushal Bharat, Creative-India Innovative-India, Make-in-India,
Start-up India, and Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India).
