The Indian Institute of Technology (Banaras Hindu University), Varanasi library system consists of the Shreenivas Deshpande Library and five departmental libraries, which collectively support teaching, research, and extension programs of the institute. All students, faculty members, and employees of the institute are entitled to make use of the library facilities by taking library membership; the library also provides membership facilities to the corporate body and individual scholars. The library offers various facilities to the users like a collaborative learning space, Document delivery service, Remote Access facility, e-library, Modern reading room, Computer-Aided Reference Service etc. The library frequently organizes various programs/workshops for the faculty and research scholars.
 
The library, besides having an excellent print collection of over 1,40,500 volumes of books, journals, theses, reports, standards, pamphlets, it also provides access to over 10,000 electronic journals and more than 3000 (text & reference books) of electronic books and databases in science, engineering, and technology. Library timing is 09:30 AM to 9.30 PM, including Saturday and Sunday; also, arranges to open late at night during mid-semester and semester exams.
