Specialization : Nonlinear Waves

In non-linear gas dynamics, shock waves occur frequently. A shock wave is actually a surface of discontinuity of one or more physical parameters such as pressure, density, entropy etc. Problems being studied include appearance of shock waves in supersonic flow over simple airfoils and inverse problems such as determination of the shape of an airfoil. Theoretical studies, as well as improved numerical methods, are being investigated.
