HoD's Message: Welcome to the Department of Mechanical Engineering, IIT (BHU).

Mechanical Engineering department is established in 1919. It is one of the oldest departments in the field of science and technology. Since its inception, it has been amongst the top engineering department of the country. The department offers 4 years UG program, 5 years IDD program, 2 years Masters and Doctoral programs. The department focuses on four major streams of mechanical engineering viz., Thermal and Fluid Engineering, Design Engineering, Production Engineering and Industrial Engineering. Our curriculum emphasizes on developing industry based engineers who contribute to the nation’s growth and command respect in society. A dedicated pool of faculty members helps students to learn in a technological and multidisciplinary environment. Advance computational facility and well equipped laboratories aid in the motto of department.

The department encourages students to participate in various competitions related to technology and innovation. The performance of Team AVERERA is outstanding in the past years. Our faculty members are working on several sponsored projects in basic and applied research areas of mechanical engineering with various organizations like DST, DBT, BARC, DRDO, HAL etc. The number of patents and research papers published every year establish us in the elite list of the department active in the field of research and development. The department is also working in collaboration with several foreign universities as well. The HoD wishes good luck to all the stakeholders of the department.
