Prof. S.K. Shukla is former Pro-Vice Chancellor of Ranchi University and working in the field of Thermal Engineering and Renewable Energy Technology since last 22 years. He is founder Coordinator of Centre For Energy and Resources Development (CERD), IIT(BHU) and Coordinator of CST UP Incubation Centre for Grass-Root Innovators at Mechanical Engineering Department, IIT(BHU), Varanasi. He has completed his Masters in Energy Studies and Ph.D. in Solar Thermal Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, India. He is a recognized guide for M.Tech. and Ph. D. in Thermal and Energy Engineering in Indian Institute of Technology (Banaras Hindu University), Uttar Pradesh Technical University, Lucknow and NITTTR, Chandigarh. He has developed research Collaborations with Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok, University of Leeds, UK and University of Technology, Mauritius, GIFU University, Japan in the field of Thermal Engineering and Renewable Energy Technology. He is a Visiting Professor under MHRD Govt. of India, Secondment to Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok and University of Technology, Mauritius. He has published more than 50 research papers in International Journals. He has delivered number of invited talks in International conferences/symposiums/ workshops on various issues in the field of Renewable Energy and Alternate Fuel Technologies. He is a member of Post Graduate and Research Committee, Mechanical Engineering Department IIT (BHU), Varanasi since October 2013. He has also nominated as Principal Member of Expert Group in Mechanical Engineering Sectional Committees (MED-39) and MED-04, of Bureau of Indian Standard (BIS), Govt. of India, New Delhi. He was also member of drafting committee of Bureau of Energy Efficiency for ISO50001.

He is a recipient of UGC-TEC Consortium Agreement Award 2010 in Sustainable Energy by University Grants Commission, New Delhi, India. Recently he has been awarded by Japanese Society for Promotion of Sciences, JSPS Fellow Award 2014-15 for Visiting GIFU University, Japan. Over the years he has been able to promote the Renewable energy sources by introducing various courses and also motivating students to undertake research programs in this field. The students trained under his guidance are successfully perusing their research career in their respective countries. He has also participated in science popularization programs organized by Govt. of India and other Non Governmental Organizations. He has to his credit 4 books and one book chapter in the book published by Springer.

Prof. Shukla has made unique and significant contributions in promoting the research culture amongst students and Teachers of IIT (BHU) and other Universities across the various disciplines such as Science, Engineering and Management etc. He has worked as a Principal Investigator of various Research Project sponsored by UGC, AICTE and Science Technology Department. He was Session Organizer of Energy Systems: Analysis, Thermodynamics and Sustainability, American Society for Mechanical Engineers-IMECE2009 conference held during 13-19 November 2009 at Florida. He is on the Editorial Board of many international and national journal in the field of thermal and energy engineering. He is also Reviewer of many International Journals like Energy Policy, Energy, Energy Conversion and Management, Under Elsevier Publication, Reviewer of International Journal of Energy Engineering, Springer Publications and “Environment Progress”, Wliey & Sons Publications etc.

  1. Visited North Electric China University, Beijing, China during 20-22 October 2008 for attending IV International Green Energy Conference-2008 and presented research paper entitled “Performance Studies of a Focusing Solar Cooker”.

  1. Founder Coordinator of Centre for Excellence on Energy and Resources Development (CERD), funded by MHRD, Govt. of India, 14August 2014
  2. Coordinated the MOU with Tata Motors to establish the R&D centre in the Institute. A tata indica car has been provided by TML for development of Solar Hybrid Car. This project has been successfully demonstrated at IIT (BHU). (MOU has been signed on December 06, 2017)
  3. Submitted Invited Proposal on Impact of Climate Change on Renewable Energy Sites, invited by Ministry of Environment and forest (MOEF) Govt. of India, under UNFCCC Program, (Under Process)
  4. One of the Mentor of this team and helped in the execution of technical works for participation in Shell Eco-Marathon, Manila. Team has successfully passed the Technical Inspection and won the award.

Development of Research facilities:
 Lab
Renewable Energy lab and CERD Lab has been developed for B.Tech., M.Tech. and PhD students. In CERD, four testing setups and resources have been developed for R&D and consultancy work in energy thrust area.
 i.Solar thermal testing facility (RTC as per IS 1293:2003)
ii. Alternate fuel testing facilities
iii. Wind turbine blade designing, performance and emulation facility
iv. PV Cell testing facility.

Major achievements
Two Ph. D. students almost completed their works and one external project worth Rs.45 Lakhs is under preparation. Guided Exploratory and B.Tech. Projects in the area of Energy and Alternate fuels. NDA and MoU with Tata Motors was done to accomplish the R&D goals. A tata indica car has been provided by TML for development of Solar Hybrid Car. This project has been successfully demonstrated at IIT (BHU).
