Prof. Anand Mohan has nearly 42 years rich experience of teaching, research, administration and managing higher educational institutions. He began his career in December 1975 as R & D Engineer of Murphy India Ltd., Thane, Maharastra and subsequently joined as faculty in April 1979 at Electronics Engineering, Institute of Technology-now IIT (BHU), where he is currently working as Institute Professor.
Prof. Mohan served as Director (June 2011 - June 2016), National Institute of Technology (NIT), Kurukshetra, Haryana and he was also Mentor Director of National Institute of Technology, Srinagar, Uttarakhand. At Banaras Hindu University, he has served as Head (Nov. 2000 - Oct.2003), Department of Electronics Engineering, Coordinator (Dec.1999 - May 2011), Centre for Research in Microprocessor Applications, In-charge (May 1998 - Feb. 2004), University Science Instrumentation Centre (USIC Level-II), and Co-Coordinator (Oct.2006-May 2011), Special Manpower Development Program for VLSI Design and Related Software (SMDP-II).
Prof. Mohan has provided national level leadership to the defence related R & D activities as Chairman, Armament Sensors & Electronics (ASE) Panel under ARMREB, DRDO, Ministry of Defence, Govt. of India. As part of a doctoral research, he has developed a potential technology for application in ‘Neutron Detection Reader’ system for defence applications. He has been associated with several important academic and research advisory committees as Chairman / Member of Software Technology Parks of India (STPI), DRDO laboratories, DST, UGC, NAAC, CSIR, and AICTE. Prof. Mohan has held several additional prestigious positions namely Member, Executive Council, Member of University Court, Visitor’s Nominee for IGNOU, Member of Governing Body of HBTI, Kanpur and IET, Lucknow; Chancellor’s nominee of Rajasthan Technical University, Kota; Member of Research Advisory Committee of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi.
Prof. Mohan has active research collaboration with Louisiana State University, USA, Curtin University, Malaysia, Kathmandu University, Nepal and Central Electronics Engineering Research Laboratory (CEERI), Pilani, Rajsthan. He has visited USA, Canada, UK, Dubai, and Nepal for various academic and research interactions.
His co-authored research papers have merited awards of Indian Science Congress (1999), Institution of Engineers, India (2003), International Union of Radio Science, Belgium (2005), and Best Postgraduate Research Paper Award of Bintulu Development Authority, Malaysia (2012). For his outstanding contributions in the field of Electronics Engineering, Prof Mohan was conferred ‘Life Time Achievement Award(2016) by Kamla Nehru Institute of Technology (KNIT), Sultanpur.
 Prof. Mohan is Senior Member of IEEE, USA, fellow of Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE), fellow of Institution of Engineers (I), life member of Project Management Associates (PMA), New Delhi, and life member of Indian Society of Technical Education (ISTE), New Delhi. He has been reviewer of IEEE Transactions on Computer (USA), Journal of Information Security and Applications, Elsevier, Journal of Computer and Information Science (Canada), International Journal of Advancements in Computing Technology (Korea), and ET Journal of Institution of Engineers, (India). He has chaired technical sessions at many international and national conferences / seminars held in the country and abroad.
Prof. Mohan has made notable academic and research contributions in the field of Electronics Engineering at IIT (BHU) by creating a dedicated research group of eminent academicians and researchers from the country and abroad. He has established state-of-the-art research facilities and conducted high quality research in the areas of fault tolerant / survivable system designsteganography, and embedded system design. His current areas of research interest are intelligent instrumentation, fault tolerant design, robust watermarking algorithms, and information security. He has authored 145 research papers published in reputed international / national journals and conference proceedings. He has supervised 11 Ph. D. theses and made four chapter contributions in books. His Co-authored book ‘Medical Image Watermarking: Techniques and Applications’ has been published by Springer. Academic and research contributions of Prof. Mohan are internationally / nationally acknowledged.
Prof. Mohan obtained Ph. D. degree in Electronics Engineering from Banaras Hindu University in 1994.

Contributions Made at Different Administrative Positions

  1. Made following contributions as Director, National Institute of Technology,     Kurukshetra.
  1. Academic:
  • Established four new Schools of PG studies and research in the emerging           areas namely- (i) Renewable Energy and Efficiency (ii) VLSI  & Embedded       System Design (iii) Material Science & Nanontechnology, and (iv)             Biomedical    Engineering.
  • Started new M. Tech. programs in ‘Cyber Security’ and ‘Molecular   Engineering and Advanced Chemical       Analysis’ to meet the national       manpower requirements in these areas.
  • Improved quality of Ph. D. and M. Tech. dissertations by making 2 SCI papers      compulsory for Ph. D. thesis submission and linking the research output of M.        Tech. dissertation with the grades awarded. 
  • Implemented compulsory 75% attendance requirement and scheme of      ‘academic progress monitoring’ w.e.f. academic session 2011-12 for           effective delivery of courses along with minimum 30 lectures (10 weeks) of   actual teaching in all the courses in every semester.
  • Brought qualitative improvement in the examination by prescribing ‘Question       Papers’ with increasing difficulty level (questions carrying 25% marks are            relatively simpler and for remaining 75% marks, the questions are designed             with increasing difficulty levels).
  • Minimized delay in declaration of end-semester examination results by      making it mandatory for declaration of results within 17 days of the last day      of the examination.
  • Modified the structure of M. Tech. programs with increased   emphasis on             research.
  • Brought self-financing MBA and MCA programs of NIT Kurukshetra into   regular stream of the Institute.
  • Modernized class rooms and equipped them with multi-media projection    facilities.
  1. Skill Development / Placements.
  • Established a ‘Special Group for Skill Development’ w.e.f. academic session        2015-16.
  • Conducted a workshop on ‘Skill Development’ in consultation with DG,     National Skill Development Agency (NSDA).. 
  • The average package offered to the students during campus            placement has improved.
  • Many more companies have started visiting for campus placements.
  1. R&D and Consultancy:
  • Developed research culture among the UG and PG students; as a result a            good   number of students have presented research papers in national /           international conferences in the country and abroad.
  • Research publication of the institute in reputed international journals has             nearly doubled.
  • Sponsored project funding has increased from T 57.96 lacs in 2011-12 to      T 250.86 lacs in 2014-15
  • Consultancy of the institute has increased from T 93.61 lacs in 2011-12 to            T 295.62 in 2014-15   
  • Established an ‘Industry Cell’ and an ‘Innovation Club’ in the institute.
  • Established MoUs for faculty / student exchange and collaborative research         programs with – (i) IIT Roorkee, (ii) MDI Gurgaon, (iii) Infosys Ltd. Bangalore.

  • Conducted Career Advancement Scheme (CAS) interviews under which large    number of faculty members has been promoted / their AGP’s enhanced.
  • Encouraged young faculty members for submitting R & D project proposals to      national funding agencies which has substantially increased sponsored         project funding for the institute.
  • Motivated large number of faculty members to participate in reputed            national and international conferences / seminars / symposium / workshop /        trainings etc. by providing funds from TEQIP-II and CPDA.

 

  1. Recruitment of Officers / Non-teaching staff:
  • Made recruitment of Registrar, Deputy Registrar (Academic), Security Officer,       Senior Medical Officer, Medical Officers, and Student Activity & Sports           Officers.
  • Completed recruitment of ‘Multi Tasking Staff’ for improvement in essential           services.
  • Initiated the recruitment process for the non-teaching technical / support staff.
  1. Infrastructure Development:
  • Purchased Ambulance for the institute health centre.
  • Expanded (indoor admission facility) and modernized institute health centre.
  • Established video camera network in the campus for surveillance and       security.
  • Completed the construction of two new gates of the Institute, Multi-storied             Residential Tower for faculty / officers, 1000’ capacity Boys Hostel and 600        capacities Girls Hostel. Construction of a 300 capacity Multi Purpose Hostel is           in progress.
  • Completed construction and commissioning of HT / LT Sub-station for       ensuring uninterrupted power supply in the Institute.

B. Contributions as Head, Department of Electronics Engineering, Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University:

  • Revised both M. Tech. and B. Tech. syllabi of the Department to cope-up with the rapidly expanding horizon of Electronics Engineering.
  • Enhanced collaborative R & D interactions with reputed academic institutions / R & D organizations in the country and abroad namely-Louisiana State University, USA, Multimedia University, Malaysia, Kathmandu University, Nepal, and Central Electronics Engineering Research Institute (CEERI), Pilani.
  • Initiated and organized invited lecture series by eminent academicians / scientists from the country and abroad under short term visiting program.
  •  Modernized the Seminar Hall of Electronics Engineering, Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University by the state-of-the-art audiovisual educational aids.
  • Procured a modern EPBX exchange for the up-gradation of intercom facilities of Electronics Engineering Department, Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University through procurement of modern EPBX exchange.
  • Planned, prepared and presented before the UGC Visiting Committee the X- Plan proposal of Electronics Engineering Department, Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University. The Department was given second highest X Plan grant in the Institute.
  • Established the Varanasi Sub-Centre of the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE) in the Department of Electronics Engineering, Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University.
  • Established a Model Development Centre in the Department of Electronics Engineering, Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University to encourage and motivate students to actively carry out the innovative design and development activities for making competitive “Technical Models” on regular basis.
  • Motivated the “Institute of Technology” and “Faculty of Science” of Banaras Hindu University to submit project proposals of interest to Armament Research Board (ARMREB), DRDO, Ministry of Defence, Govt. of India, New Delhi by arranging lectures and workshop in Electronics Engineering, Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University.
  • Made significant contribution to the planning and equipment identification for establishment of Low Power FM Transmitter (LPFMT) in the Banaras Hindu University campus.

C.   As Coordinator, Center for Research in Microprocessor Applications (CRMA), Department of Electronics Engineering, Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University:

  • Established a new “P.G. and Research Laboratory” of Digital Technique and Instrumentation Specialization of the Department and upgraded the R&D facilities for research activities in the area of FPGA / CPLD devices and their applications.
  • Initiated R&D programs in the area of “Virtual Instrumentation” and established state-of-the-art laboratory facilities by procurement of software and data acquisition systems.
  • Established research collaboration in the areas of Embedded Systems and Steganography through an MoU between Central Electronics Engineering Research Institute (CEERI), Pilani and Center for Research in Microprocessor Applications (CRMA), Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi.
  • Identified thrust areas of research and manpower training for DTI specialization of the Department and prepared proposal of DTI group for inclusion under UGC sponsored Centre of Advance Study (CAS) program of the Department.
  • Initiated R & D program in area of “Information Security” which is identified as one of the important thrust area by the MIT, Govt. of India.

D.   Contributions as In-charge, University Science Instrumentation Centre (USIC Level-II):

  • Workshop facilities of USIC were modernized through a AICTE, New Delhi sponsored MODROB project grant of Rs. 14.10 lakhs.
  • Organized an Educational and Technical Training Workshop at USIC Level-II, BHU jointly with M/s Vinytics Peripherals Pvt. Ltd., New Delhi which was attended by the technical staff members of different Institutes / Faculties / Departments of the Banaras Hindu University
  • Extended technical support and provided suggestions for economical repair of diagnostic equipments of Sir Sunderlal Hospital, Banaras Hindu University.
  • Urgent maintenance and repair of equipments of Sir Sunderlal Hospital, Banaras Hindu University had been done.
